Update: North Korea needs to pay $65 million to Pueblo victims

Published byJack under news

An interesting story from the AP wires:
WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge has awarded more than $65 million to several men of the USS Pueblo, who were captured and tortured by North Korea back in the 1960s.
U.S. District Judge Henry H. Kennedy Jr. issued the judgment against North Korea on Tuesday.

Villages on each side of the divide

Published byJack under North Korea

I posted about these a while back, and it is about time I reposted them again. I do not have any more information than I did before, but these fascinate me like a lot of the other North Korean oddities. I had these in separate posts, but I suppose I can place them in one [...]

North Korean oddities: Kumsusan Memorial Palace

Published byJack under North Korea

This is one of my favorite posts, and this should be added again today.
Original Post: As North Korea watchers know, the Kumsusan Memorial Palace is probably the most sacred place in the DPRK next to the Juche Tower and Kim Il Sung’s massive statue. I have seen many pictures of the outside of the palace, [...]

Reposted : Jeku's trip to North Korea

This interview was supposed to have another part, but that part never came. So here is the interview I had with my good friend:

Whatever happened to Kimsoft?

Published byJack under North Korea

One of the first sites I ever ran into researching North Korea was Kimsoft. While I did not agree with everything it said (maybe like a lot of people who read this will not agree with it either), it was an interesting source of information. Today, I went looking for it when trying to track [...]

Reposted: The Path to Succession- Can the Dynasty Survive?

Published byJack under Analysis

This was posted on the old blog ages and ages ago. I am going through the oodles of old posts and reposting them in their original form.
Original Post: Probably one of the least things known in North Korea is how the inner government works. Sure, a lot of the books, papers and scholarly articles [...]

North Korean oddities: Tower of the Juche Idea

Published byJack under North Korea

The Juche Tower in the heart of Pyongyang is an interesting, well-known oddity. I did not know much about the history of the monstrosity, but as with everything North Korea, everything has to be bigger. After all, image is everything. Kind of funny considering so few outsiders are able to marvel at them.
After some research [...]

Happy holidays from DPRK Forum

Published byJack under Other Topics

DPRK Forum wishes all a happy, safe and warm holiday season where ever you happen to be. North Korea’s people are still in crisis, and while we enjoy our fortune at home (despite the financial crisis which I am not downplaying), let us learn to open our hearts a little more to help our fellow [...]

Christmas in North Korea

Published byJack under North Korea

The NORAD tracking system found Santa was able to deliver gifts to the cash-starved, isolated, totalitarian state. As the map shows, the gifts have already been delivered, but sources indicate a deal was struck with Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defense Commission of Korea, and Supreme Commander of the Korean People’s Army.
According to [...]
