Documentary Time: President for Life – Turkmenistan

December 29th, 2008

Another country that seems very interesting to me is Turkmenistan. Here is another country with a huge cult of personality, and strangely enough, I do not hear as much about this one as with North Korea. I do know NKEconWatch went to Turkmenistan, and the pictures are very neat as well (Although I cannot find the pictures).

At this stage of the game, I am just starting to look into it, so I will not even begin to discuss what it is about yet. To start off, I did find this documentary on it, and I found it interesting as well. Granted, you cannot play it here as the author denied embedding.

As time goes on, I should learn more about this country, and I just hope it is not as secretive and frustrating as North Korea is.

As usual, insights would be very good. Thank you in advance.

Niyazov died in 2006 and no son took over. But Berdimuhammedow(new leader)
resembles him so he got elected in 07.
