Kim Jong Nam interview and other news

BBC reports a non-confirmation confirmation on his brother’s succession. This is the first time I ever heard Kim Jong Nam speak. I cannot embed the video here, so I will give you a link to the story instead. What role, if any, Jong Nam plays in North Korea is uncertain, and if he does know anything, of course he is not going to confirm it. I also believe he does not know a whole lot, either, but that is just a guess. What is striking is the remark he does not remember the last time he spoke to his old man.

Questioned about whether he had been notified by the North Korean government about succession plans, Kim Jong-nam hesitated before saying: “Very sensitive question. I cannot answer.”

Uh, thanks for the interview, Mr. Kim. Now I do not want to keep you from your shopping sprees while your fellow countrymen are languishing in political camps and eating tree bark.

In other news, Hillary is considering putting North Korea back on the states that sponsor terrorism. From the New York Times:

“What is going somewhere is additional sanctions in the United Nations — arms embargo, other measures taken against North Korea with the full support of China and Russia,” she said. “We think we’re going to come out of this with very strong resolution, with teeth, that will have consequences for the North Korean regime.”

Sanctions will not work without Russia’s or China’s full support, and that I agree with. However, I do not see China moving anytime soon. Anyway, they should have never been removed in the first place, and now the price has to be paid to believing a dictator.

There is still no word on the two journalists detained. Supposidly, they had a trial, but there was no indication on the outcome. I do not know why this is, but whereever they are, I hope they come out of this in one piece. I cannot imagine being locked up in a country totally cut off from the world. One Free Korea has more on this.

I hope the United States begins interdicting every North Korean vessel in the area to check for contraband.  North Korea’s army is shit, they may have a lot of troops but their conventional equipment is pathetic compared the United States, Japan, and South Korea.  We will kick their asses all the way back to Pyongyang.  If they think they’ll be fighting the same enemy as they did during the Korean war, they are SORELY mistaken.  If they use a nuke, we will obliterate them in return.  Either way, we rid the world of a scumbag piece of shit.

Hello Kukulkan, and thank you for visiting DRPK Forum. I do agree if they choose to send the massive forward deployed army, nuke, missile, or whatever, it would be suicide for the regime. Will they do it? I pray they do not, but Kim is known to be unstable. Historically, though, they knew once the Korean War was over, it was too late to try again. I agree while they have a vast army, their wepons are indeed antiquated and simply no match for Japan, ROK and the United States. I am very sure Kim is aware of this fact.

The only reservation I have is the risk for our South Korean brothers, but enough is enough!  Some day we’ve got to put a stop to this maniac, before he gets the technology to hold the entire world hostage.  This has gone on long enough.

  • Jack says:

Yes, the casualties from any initial bombardment from say, the DMZ for instance, will cause some serious harm. However, the response will be very grim. Next, let me further assume the Korean War resumes. The reconstruction efforts will be monumental. The humanitarian effort will be historical. The economical impact will be catastrophic. That will make Iraq look like Disneyland. I cannot imagine it, but eventually, somewhere down the line, it will have to give. How remains to be seen. Let’s hope a miracle happens and the regime goes away on its own. On the other hand, even that carries huge risks. Regime change may not necessarily be better change. Also, if the regime is replaced, replaced with what?
