Usually, the first thoughts about North Korea involve little crazy men with puffy hair, big glasses, khaki jumpsuit and platform shoes with a taste for Cognac. Another is somebody in a dark room carefully crafting a haphazardly made nuclear weapon in the hopes of world domination.

Welcome to North Korea, one of the most secretive and isolated states in the world.

Some of the tales you might have heard have some truths to it, but for the most part, North Korea is mostly unknown. From its nuclear weapons, government, leaders, people, and just about everything else. If you are unfamiliar with North Korea, a good place to start is watching this video.

This blog focuses on North Korea. While I may discuss other topic, this is the main focus. To make it very, very clear, I am NOT an expert, specialist, or even partially knowledgeable on the subject. There are others that have a lot more insight such as One Free Korea, North Korean Economy Watch, DPRK Studies and many others. I also rely on other sources such as DailyNK, Yonhap, Chosun Ilbo, Woodrow Wilson School, Peterson Institute, Brooking’s Institution, and many others. That does not include some of the books I read over and over again. It seems no matter how many times I read those books, I tend to learn something. Even then, what is very frustrating in this process is the more I learn, the less I know. If people have visited this blog before, you already know that level of frustration.
